I was told I was diabetic some 25 years ago, I had just finished a cycle ride from Joun O'groats to Lands End, the last 2 days surviving on Mars bars!! Well we were all looking forward to our promised bacon butties.
2 Days afterwards I was watching the film Ben Hur, I will never forget it, as the film started I got both my kids to sit down and watch it with me... all through the film I had a tightening of my chest and was pretty breathless. Following the film I decicided I needed help! so began to walk across Swansea, half way across I could not go on, so I phoned my sons mother to come and pick them both up. I was rushed to Morrison Hospital, where they informed me I was having a Heart Attack. Ooops. I was in there for over aweek while they did tests etc the outcome, I was type 2 Diabetic.
I did change my diet and took up excercising, this dwindled after awhile, but we still took long walks and rested more, About 15 years ago, something went wrong with what I was doing, I still have no idea what, and to help me further with the kids we moved to Northampton, to be nearer family. On seeing the new doctoer, and now suffering pains in my legs while walking, I was informed if I did not change my lifestyle I may loose my legs in about 5 years, This scared the hell out of me, so once again I changed my lifestyle, diet etc... and for the first time in years I began to loose weight! this had not happend previously. even the kids began to have healthier out looks and things did look promising, although I still suffered with painful legs, my readings across the board all came into permitted scales.
I met my present partner and began a new life in Norwich, hers and my kids flying the nest. All looked great, we were both working and we had a little one bed flat, and a cat! My left leg became inpossible so I was sent to Norfolk and Norwich for an angioplasty after which I could not place my foot onto the ground, "All is fine" I was told and went home, I suffered for the next 3 weeks, my foot was warm on the out side (Skin) but freezing inside (Bone) Eventually I was taken back to N&N for an amputation, of which I have had 2, as The below the knee scaring did not hold, (Possibly falling 3 times on it, did not help!) and followed by an Above the knee. This was nearly 2 years ago.
